Betty Pullen
Betty Pullen volunteers much of her time as a Community Representative.

Betty is particularly proud of of being the chair of the environment group on Langley, meeting monthly and tackling a wide variety of environmental issues. It is a mixture of local people, Bowlee Park Officers, Rochdale Council workers, Space Housing and Housing market renewal. "We get a lot done and have a lot of say as to what happens on the estate, whether its double yellow lines at school gates or other environment issues, it all comes through this group"

She is also board member for Bowlee Park and a tenants representative for DART, where she mainly works with older people, liasing with social services and getting practical things done. She works on average about 8 hours voluntary work a week, but admits that she wouldn't do it if she didn't like it! She is also on the management of Demesne Community Centre.

Betty is thrilled with the improvements on the estate. "Look at Rowrah Crescent, it was a very difficult to let area, but now with all the housing improvements, walls, driveways and re-furbishments, the whole area has changed. People need to realize that it does take time to change all these things"

"I love living on Langley, the people here are friendly, outgoing and supportive. I was only here 12 months and I knew more people than I did living 31 years in Stretford. When i lived in Alston Walk, we pitched in and tidied the whole area, by chatting and treating people right, we were able to get some young lads involved, its all about improving the area for the better"

" I am very proud of the area and what we've achieved, although it is an ongoing process. I would really encourage people to get involved as there is a great sense of achievement to be had by being involved in the changes to the area"
