Freda Robinson |
 |
| Freda (67) volunteers with a number of community groups on the estate. |
Freda got involved in the community after her daughter Kelly (24) was born, she saw a Women and Health course advertised at Langley Community Centre. "The course itself was free and childcare was provided".
From this course, 6 or 7 women set up as a committee and started the Well Women Centre in 1988, to provide a much need information, advice and support service to women living in Langley and Middleton.
The centre was first based at Langley Community centre.
"I remember us scouring the estate for a building of our, we managed to get a community health grant from the NHS and moved to the location we are in now on Wood St. The building was officially opened in October 1988 by the Deputy Lord Mayor and Mayoress"
As well as being Chairperson of Langley & Middleton Well Womens Centre, Freda is a Director of Pride Media Association and a trustee of The Centre of Holistic Wellbeing.
Freda has gained many new experiences in her volunteering career, from learning skills in Holistic therapies through to helping to set up, and present on Langley & Middleton's Community Radio Station - Pride FM.

"Volunteering has given me an opportunity to meet people and be involved in their lives and there's great job satisfaction.
It has also given me an opportunity to get involved in various training courses, like the community work training program run at Manchester University.
I have attended residentials and have been able to travel to places all over the country such as Scotland, Oxford, Leeds, St Ann's and have fun times in the "university of life" Getting involved has meant that i have built good friendships and have got to know other residents from Langley" |
